Mid 19th century Vincent & Company (Vincenti & Cie) black marble mantle clock with finely cast bonze dore decoration, surmounted by a lidded urn flanked by lion heads, clock face with roman numerals and sun motif center. At lower front center is a depiction of Dionysus (Bacchus) surrounded by four thyrsi, classical mascarons (possibly maenads) with crowns of ivy at each side, all on four flattened toupie feet. Movement stamped Medaille D'Argent Vincenti & Cie 1855, 1382, 64. It is said that this clock was given to relatives of Napoleon Bonaparte as a wedding gift. Winding key, pendulum and bell are included, along with information on the Bonaparte family tree, and a letter regarding the supposed provenance of the clock. 18.5 x 12 x 6.5 inches.
Condition
The glass is cracked on the movement access door. The XII is missing, and the V is slightly damaged. Not tested for working condition.
