Early 20th century Western Pennsylvania Artist, Trompe L'oeil Still Life with Stork, Letter, Inkwell and Pen, early to mid 20th century, watercolor on paper, unsigned, 17 x 20 inches, in a wood frame 26 x 28.5 inches. The letter is addressed To the Secretary of Pittsburgh School of History(?). No markings on the verso; old Gillespie Gallery label on the frame. Provenance: Collection of Eugene Brunozzi Jr., Pittsburgh; Concept Gallery auction, November 2011; the personal collection of Gary S. Grimes, Pittsburgh. Gary was an expert on Western Pennsylvania art, and especially the Scalp Level painters.
In good condition, with a small repaired tear at the stork's head near the eye; also with some small chips and small repaired tears along the edges of the sheet.
