19th century American Folk School, done in the style of Zedekiah Belknap, Portrait of a Lady Reading the Bible, undated, oil on wood panel, unsigned, 27 x 22.5 inches, in a gold painted wood frame 31 x 26.5 inches. The figure, wearing a lovely lace collar and sitting in a decorated wood chair, is reading from the Book of John in the New Testament. Provenance: A Western PA private collection.

In generally good condition, inpainting to the extreme edges from frame rubbing; some paint beading in the hair sections.
