Comprehending also the Habitation & Hunting Countries of the Confederate Indians, 1796, hand colored copper engraving, originally drawn by Lewis Evans, this is the updated post-Revolutionary War edition showing a young America, published by Bowles and Carver, London, image size 19 x 25 inches, matted and framed 29 x 34.5 inches. Notable for its references to petroleum along the Ohio River, and, for local interest, the annotation "Ft. du Quesne destroyed 1758 now calld Pitsburg" at the confluence of the Three Rivers. Provenance: The estate of Donald T. Mervine, Western Pennsylvania, sold to benefit the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium.
Light toning to the sheet; soft vertical fold as issued; slight trimming to the margins; a few small areas with faint foxing.
