Sebree, Charles (African-American/Chicago, 1914-1985), 4 mock up illustrations for The Lost Zoo by Countee Cullen, c.1939-1940, ink and gouache, unsigned, inscription in unknown hand to one edge, sheet size 14 x 17 inches, unframed; unfinished ink sketch of a tailed animal on the verso. The book The Lost Zoo was published by Harper in 1940. Sebree was a part of the Chicago art scene in the 1930s before moving to New York. He worked for the Illinois Federal Art Project as part of the WPA and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. Provenance: collection of Robert Hagenhofer, a graphic designer who attended the Chicago Institute of Design in the late 1940s following a stint as a soldier in World War II.

Condition
