Sebree, Charles (African-American/Chicago, 1914-1985), Study for a Portrait, c. late 1930s, watercolor and stamps on wove paper, inscribed lower left in an unknown hand, sheet size 16 x 13.75 inches, unframed. Sebree was a part of the Chicago art scene in the 1930s before moving to New York. He worked for the Illinois Federal Art Project as part of the WPA and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. Provenance: collection of Robert Hagenhofer, a graphic designer who attended the Chicago Institute of Design in the late 1940s following a stint as a soldier in World War II.

Condition
