Eastern Pennsylvania Tall Case Clock (Grandfather Clock), made by Jacob Moyer (1813-1882) of Skippackville, PA, a small town in Montgomery County now known simply as Skippack, c.1830s or 1840s, maker's name on face, painted moon, ship and house on upper spinning mechanism, two globes at top, fruit and cornucopia at each corner, main dial plus smaller ones for day of the week and date. Newer body, bonnet and movement. Includes 3 older lead weights, circular pendant and winding key. Cabinet key also present.91 inches tall. 20.5 inches at widest point. 10.5 inches deep. Very little info is available about Moyer. He is listed in the article Early Pennsylvania Clocks and their Makers by Fred C. Sweinhart, published in the Montgomery County Historical Society Bulletin in 1941. Apparently, he was a Pennsylvania German Baptist who had a brief career as a clock maker, before marrying his second wife, a Mennonite woman named Christina Price, and returning to farming to support their twelve children. The 1899 book A Brief History of Bishop Henry Funck and Other Funk Pioneers lists his profession as "Clock-maker, afterwards farmer." In generally good condition, paint losses on the face and dial; not tested for working order. Merchandise will be packed and transported by the purchaser at their own risk and expense.
