19th century Portraiture School or possibly a Self-Portrait, Portrait of the Irish Lady Mira Robertson Grierson, c.1860, oil on canvas, relined, apparently unsigned, 19 x 15.5 inches, in an old wood frame 23.5 x 20 inches. Partial label on the verso states that Robertson was known as Mira Duke and married a Grierson. The date 1857 is on the label and it appears to say that it was a self (portrait) done at a city ending in -za. Mira Robertson was born in Ireland in 1840 or 1841 and married Philip Grierson, son of James Grierson and Sophia Mary Anne Grierson, in February 1862 at Livorno, Italy. She died in March 1865 and is buried at Mount Jerome Cemetery in Dublin, Ireland. Provenance: Old Kaufmann's department store inventory label on the back of the frame. Relined, otherwise in good condition with a network of stable crazing throughout; appears to have been cleaned at some point.
