Regence period beautifully carved Walnut mantel in original finish. The shelf is molded and serpentine, which mimics the curvature of the serpentine frieze centered by a pair of birds heads and leaf motif, 45.5 x 74 x 12.75 inches. Provenance: from Mr. Lester Nolan of Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1963, from what had been the old Edwin Jackson Company in New York City. Kay Farnum had been the salesperson and maintained that it had come from Mrs. Marshall Field IV.
