Hetzel, Lila Barr (American/Western PA, 1873-1967), Still Life with Statue, Books and Flowers, 1897, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right, 18 x 12 inches, unframed. This lot includes the actual 2 books that were used as props in the painting! The green book, Poetical Works of Pope, is inscribed on the fly leaf to Lila's father, George Hetzel. Provenance: gift from the artist to a close family friend. Lila Hetzel was born in Edgewood, Pittsburgh, and was the daughter of George Hetzel who founded the Scalp Level School.
